Sezmi Wants You To Ditch Cable And Satellite Services

"Sezmi plans to be a cable competitor, offering live television content via broadband Internet services. Users will have a set-top box allowing them to access both broadcast and cable content, along with on-demand films and Internet video content. The system is promising more personalization options than existing TV providers as well as much lower costs."

Hard to Find Green iPhone Apps Are Also An Opportunity

TreeHugger's post on Green iPhone apps got me thinking about the upside that exists as mobile content and apps continue to explode. With such clear demand, you'd think it would be easy to find apps.

I like 3rdWhale President Ron Williams' idea of simply adding a "sustainability" tag to the iTunes store and homepage. And with Apple's recent Green push, you'd think they'd be all over the opportunity to boost firms with a green gene.

What this also shows is how much opportunity there is for brands and content providers. If I were a media company or brand I'd be looking to cut content and licensing deals that put my company front and center alongside these niche providers. Not to mention iPhone apps are the gateway interface to other brand touches and interactions. And guess what -- a lot of those interactions will ultimately be tied to transactions. Think M-Commerce.

Pearl Jam's album debut on MySpace underscores longer-term strategy

This deal,coupled with a redesigned MySpace Music homepage, seems to signal the social network's heavy focus on entertainment is taking shape. If MySpace can continue to unify its properties and improve brand recognition (what it is), the social network land grab gets a heck of a lot more interesting.

The NYT Details Attributor's Plans To Help Publishers Curb Copyrighted Content

Jim Pitkow’s start-up, Attributor, plans to funnel ad revenue to copyright holders from sites that reprint their news articles.

It's obviously good timing for Attributor's model but one company getting revenues from all the publishers listed is unlikely. Some of the publishers and media entities will build their own capabilities and the target market (# of publishers) is dwindling. While you can make the argument that print publishers will continue to move online --- therefore increasing potential customers for Attributor --- it remains to be seen how many would make the transition successfully.
